Vegas de Santiago “D8” Wide Churchill
The “Coffee Pirate Porter” is a cooperation between Pirate Brew Berlin and Brewbox Coffee Berlin
Color: black with a brown-beige head
Nose: sweet dry/tartly, roasted malt, coffee, earthy, a hint of chocolate
First Sip: dry/tartly, again roasted malt, remembers me on a strong coffe with a hint of dark hot chocolate in it without being sweet.
Mouth: nice mix tartly mix of hop and malt, strong coffee, quiet some carbon acid a little more then other Porter I tasted but very nice. Medium body with a hint of lebkuchen..
At the End: slightly dry, at the beginning the hop dominates but then the malt comes stronger without losing the strong coffee. A hint of 80%-90% dark chocolate. Nice and tasty
Conclusion: I liked the beer even if it was a little more dry as expected. One thing is for sure it is a well made coffee Porter. The Coffee is always present. I really like to try the other two beer of Pirate Brew (Classic Porter and Chili Porter) if I find them in the shop nearby.
This beer and a cigar? Yes and No – for me it was a hint to dry/tartly with a cigar. But people who drink a Pils or a strong hopped beer with a cigar it is ok. But with the “D8” no chance. Even if I liked that beer a lot.

Test of the D8 from Vegas de Santiago. It is a wonderful mild to medium cigar. Great
The Filler is from the Dom.Rep., Peru and Costa Rica, Binder and Wrapper from Ecuador. The Wrapper is a Habano 2000. Workmanship: Perfect! Smell: Cedar wood and a little Coffee. Draw: 3 Tester and 3x Perfect Burnup: Nearly perfect – 2x of us we had to correct the burn once. Taste: Creamy, nutty, a little earthly, a little coffee, a very little sweetness. The first and the second third have nearly the same taste but far away of being boring. I ask myself “do I smoke a cuban cigar”? Very yummy. No the third part and it starts to get a bit of stronger flavor. A little spices and some pepper, earth and leather. I love pepper. TOP! We all smoked the cigar to the very end. Das “Coffee Pirate Porter” ist ein Kooperation Bier zwischen Pirate Brew Berlin und Brewbox Coffee Berlin
Farbe: schwarz mit einer schönen lang stehender braun-beiger Schaumkrone.
Nase: süßlich herb, Röstmalz , Kaffee, erdig, ein Hauch von Schokolade
Antrunk: herb, wieder Röstmalz, erinnert an starken Kaffee mit einem kleinen Schuss heißer dunkler Schokolade ohne dabei süß zu sein.
Am Gaumen: schöner herber Mix aus Malz und Hopfen, starker Kaffee, mehr Kohlensäure wie manch andere Biere dieser Art aber sehr gut. Mittel schwerer Körper, vielleicht sogar ein wenig Lebkuchen.
Abgang: leicht trocken, der Hopfen dominiert am Anfang geht dann ins malzige über ohne den kräftigen Kaffee zu verlieren. Auch ein Hauch von 80%-90% Bitterschokolade. Lecker
Fazit: Für mich war es ein leckeres Bier das etwas herber war als ich erwartet hätte. Fest steht aber das es ein sehr gelungenes Kaffee Porter ist. Denn der Kaffee ist immer präsent. Jetzt bin ich ja mal echt gespannt auf die anderen zwei Biere der Brauerei. Das Original Porter und das Chili Porter. Mal schauen ob es das im Craftbeer Shop meines Vertrauens gibt.
Passt es zur Zigarre? Jaein – Mir persönlich ist es ein Tick zu herb für eine Zigarre. Wer allerdings Pils oder sehr stark gehopfte Biere zur Zigarre trinkt, für den kann es passen. Aber wenn dann nur zu den sehr kräftigen würzigen Zigarren. Zur „D8“ passt es aber nicht. Auch wenn ich das Bier für sich echt lecker fand.

Test D8: Gleich mal vorweg. Es ist eine wunderbare milde bis medium Zigarre.
Die Einlage Tabak kommt aus der Dom Rep., Peru und Costa Rica, Umblatt und Deckblatt aus Ecuador wobei das Deckblatt ein Habano 2000 ist. Verarbeitung: Absolut einwandfrei!! Geruch: Zedernholz und etwas Kaffee. Zug: 3 Tester = 3xPerfekt. Nicht zu stark nicht zu leicht. Abbrand: Nahezu perfekt - 2 mußten einmal nachzünden. Geschmack: Cremig, Nussig, etwas Erde, etwas Kaffee, minimale süße. Erste und zweite drittel recht gleichbleibend ohne auch nur annähernd langweil zu sein. Rauche ich gerade eine kubanische Zigarre?? Sau lecker. Jetzt nimmt sie etwas an fahrt auf. Wird etwas würziger und bekommt schönen aber angenehmen Pfeffer, Erde, Leder. TOP! Wir haben die Zigarre bis zum Ende geraucht, da sie auch auf die letzten cm. Nicht unangenehm wurde. Eine Zigarre die man auf alle Fälle probieren sollte.
